120 Frames Per Second, Zero Blackout

The A9 III shoots at up to 120 frames per second in continuous burst mode, delivering RAW files with full autofocus and auto exposure tracking. At 120fps, you are capturing roughly one frame every 8.3 milliseconds. For sports and wildlife photographers, this means the decisive moment is not a single frame you hope to catch but a sequence you select from afterward.

DxOMark measured the A9 III at approximately 13 EVs of dynamic range, which is very good but roughly 1-1.5 stops behind the best performers like the Nikon Z8 or Sony's own A7R V. At higher ISOs the gap narrows, and the A9 III holds up well through ISO 6400 and remains usable at ISO 12,800.

For most action and sports photography, where you are shooting at ISO 800-6400 anyway, this is a non-issue. Landscape photographers who rely on that last stop of shadow recovery at base ISO will feel the difference. At 24.6 megapixels, the resolution is sufficient for most professional needs but falls behind the 45-61MP bodies available in the same price range.
