Image quality: effectively a tie for wildlife

The 45MP class is a sweet spot for wildlife. It provides enough pixels to crop a distant bird while retaining useful detail, yet it does not force every burst into the largest files on the market. At similar framing, exposure, and processing, both bodies can produce professional prints and publication-ready files.

The Z8's ISO 64 base setting is valuable when wildlife pauses in bright conditions or when you turn from an animal toward a landscape. The lower base ISO offers extra exposure flexibility for water, snow, and highly detailed habitat scenes. Video and hybrid wildlife work

Choose the Canon EOS R5 Mark II if you want the lighter body, 30 fps full-resolution RAW bursts, full RAW pre-capture, a mechanical-shutter option, or a particular Canon RF lens. Do not switch systems for a minor specification difference. Price the body, primary wildlife lens, second card, spare battery, support, and adapter.
