The Fujifilm X-T50 uses the same 40.2-megapixel X-Trans sensor found in Fujifilm's flagship X-T5, giving it nearly double the resolution of the Nikon. The Nikon Z50 II uses a 20.9-megapixel CMOS sensor, which is lower resolution but generally means larger individual pixels, which can help with noise performance and file sizes.

Fujifilm's X-T50 also gets subject detection autofocus, inherited from the X-T5 platform, and it performs well for a camera this size. But most reviewers agree Nikon's tracking is a step ahead for genuinely erratic, fast subjects. If your primary interest is sports, wildlife, or kids running around, that gap is worth weighing seriously. If you mostly shoot portraits, street, travel, or landscapes, both autofocus systems are more than capable.
Video Specs
Both cameras are strong for hybrid shooters, but the X-T50 pulls ahead on paper. It offers 6.2K open gate recording, 4K60 with no crop, and 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, plus in-body image stabilization that the Z50 II lacks entirely. The Nikon caps out at 4K/60p with 10-bit N-Log, which is still solid, but it relies on lens or electronic stabilization rather than in-body stabilization.
If video is a meaningful part of why you're buying a camera, the X-T50's IBIS and open gate recording give it a real advantage for handheld shooting and vertical or social content.
Size, Weight, and Build
The X-T50 is the smaller and lighter of the two, measuring about 3mm narrower, 13mm shorter, and 18mm thinner than the Z50 II, and it's roughly 26% lighter overall. If you want the smallest possible kit for travel or street photography, Fujifilm's classic dial-based design and compact body are appealing.
The Nikon, on the other hand, includes weather sealing (splash and dust resistance) that the X-T50 doesn't offer at all. Handling and Controls

Fujifilm sticks with its signature dedicated dials for shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation on top of the body, which longtime film shooters and manual-mode enthusiasts tend to love. It's also where the X-T50 borrows its Film Simulation dial from the X100VI, giving you quick access to color profiles like Classic Chrome and Provia without diving into menus.
Nikon's Z50 II uses a more conventional mode dial and command dial layout, closer to what most DSLR upgraders are already used to. It also adds a dedicated video record button and a customizable function button that Nikon introduced specifically based on user feedback from the original Z50. That price gap matters. The Z50 II undercuts the X-T50 by several hundred dollars while still offering faster burst shooting, better tracking autofocus, and weather sealing. The X-T50 justifies its higher price with a much higher-resolution sensor, IBIS, better video specs, and Fujifilm's well-regarded color science.
Which One Should You Buy?
Choose the Nikon Z50 II if you want the best value, faster autofocus tracking for action and wildlife, weather sealing, and a lower barrier to entry into a camera system with a growing native lens lineup.
Choose the Fujifilm X-T50 if resolution, in-body stabilization, video specs, and out-of-camera color rendering matter more to you than autofocus speed or price, and you're drawn to Fujifilm's dial-based shooting experience and its deep catalog of X-mount lenses.
